Victor Boniface Commits to Bayer Leverkusen Until 2029 Amid Injury Comeback

A Star Striker’s Journey: Resilience, Loyalty, and Ambition

Bayer 04 Leverkusen has announced a significant boost to their ranks, with Nigerian striker Victor Boniface extending his contract until the summer of 2029. The 24-year-old forward, who joined the German champions in 2023 from Union Saint-Gilloise, has quickly become a key figure in the team’s resurgence under head coach Xabi Alonso.

Boniface’s debut season at the Bay Arena was nothing short of spectacular. His 21 goals and 10 assists powered Leverkusen to an unforgettable domestic double—claiming the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles—and securing a spot in the UEFA Europa League final, where they narrowly lost to Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta. His performances earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award for 2023/2024.

Despite interest from top clubs, including Manchester United, Boniface has doubled down on his commitment to Die Werkself. The striker’s new deal sees him become one of the club’s highest earners, with his annual salary reportedly increasing from €3 million to €6 million.

However, the road hasn’t been entirely smooth. A thigh injury sustained in November sidelined Boniface for months, during which Leverkusen continued their dominance, winning 11 of their last 13 matches. Now back in training, the 1.9m-tall forward is focused on regaining full fitness to help his team in their title defense.

Leverkusen’s decision to extend Boniface’s contract underscores their faith in his abilities. Still, the club remains pragmatic, with reports suggesting they would entertain offers of around €50 million for the Nigerian star.

As the Super Eagles forward gears up for his return, fans will be eager to see if he can replicate the brilliance that defined his first season in Germany.
