What Ghana stands to benefit from having Kurt Okraku on the CAF EXCO after Kwasi Nyantakyi

The imminent election of Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku into the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) brings several potential benefits to Ghana and its football development.

The Ghanaian FA leader is on the cusp of being elected as a member of CAF’s powerful governance body.

His position on the EXCO would allow Ghana to have direct representation at the highest decision-making level within the Confederation of African Football.

The President of Ghana Football Association is running for the position unopposed and become member of the CAF powerful Executive body to steer the affairs of African football for the next four years.

The elections will be held on March 12 in Cairo, Egypt during CAF’s General Assembly.

Ghana will have a bigger voice and influence in CAF decisions including but not limited to policy-making and regional representation.

His election will put him a position to push for increased funding and support for the Ghana Football Association and could advocate for hosting CAF Competitions.

Kurt Okraku’s election will put the spotlight back on Ghana after former GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi excelled in that role in the past.

Okraku, who has a background in youth and grassroots development, could advocate for more CAF-led youth and grassroots initiatives in Ghana. This would lead to better infrastructure, training programs, and increased opportunities for young talents to develop and advance in their football careers.

His influence could lead to more CAF resources being channeled into the development of women’s football in Ghana. This could include hosting women’s tournaments, improving local women’s leagues, and securing more funding for national teams like the Black Queens and the youth women’s teams.

With Okraku at the heart of African football administration, Ghana could benefit from increased opportunities to collaborate with other nations, international football organizations, and sponsors. This can lead to commercial partnerships, sponsorship deals, and knowledge sharing that would help develop football domestically.

Okraku’s exposure to CAF-level administration could also translate into better football governance and management practices being practiced in Ghana. This includes reforms in financial transparency, leadership structures, and talent management in Ghana’s football federations and leagues.

The election of Kurt Okraku to the CAF EXCO would position Ghana to benefit significantly in terms of influence, resources, and opportunities for football development.

His role would not only bring direct advantages to Ghanaian football but also raise the country’s profile in African and global football governance.
