The Ghanaian midfielder stays committed to his journey in France despite Egyptian giants’ pursuit
In the heart of France, Augustine Boakye is determined to carve his path in European football. The 24-year-old Ghanaian midfielder recently found himself at the center of a transfer tussle as Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly made a strong bid to secure his services. However, AS Saint-Etienne swiftly rejected the offer, reaffirming their belief in Boakye’s potential.
Having joined the French side from Austria’s Wolfsberger AC last summer, Boakye’s start in Ligue 1 has been far from smooth, with injuries hampering his early progress. But last month, he reminded everyone of his talent, netting a stunning brace in a 3-1 triumph over Stade Reims—a performance that earned him a spot in the Ligue 1 Team of the Week for matchday 16.
Al Ahly, eager to bolster their squad ahead of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, viewed Boakye as a key addition to their midfield. However, both the club and the player turned down the move. Boakye remains steadfast in his ambition to establish himself in Europe, believing that his best years in top-flight football are still ahead.
With three goals in 16 appearances this season, Boakye continues to work toward proving himself in Ligue 1, unwilling to let go of his European dream just yet.
