Kwesi Appiah’s Next Chapter: From Striker to Coach and Talent Scout

The former Ghana international is preparing for life after football with coaching and scouting ambitions.

Kwesi Appiah has spent his career finding the back of the net, but now he’s setting his sights on a new goal—helping the next generation of footballers succeed.

At 34, the Boreham Wood forward is already making strides in scouting and coaching while still actively playing in England’s National League. His role as a scout for Crystal Palace’s academy allows him to assess young talent, a responsibility he takes seriously. “So far, I’ve seen hundreds of players, but in football, very few make it—it’s the 1% of the 1%. I haven’t found that gem yet, but I have come across some talented players who I’ve helped get opportunities,” he told Sportsblog247.com.

Appiah has also earned his UEFA B coaching license and has ambitions to secure a UEFA A license in the near future, preparing him for a managerial or technical role after retirement.

His journey began in Camberwell, London, with Ghanaian and English heritage shaping his footballing path. Rising through Ebbsfleet United’s youth system, he carved out a career across England’s lower leagues before earning a surprise call-up to Ghana’s 2015 AFCON squad. He made an immediate impact, scoring in the quarterfinals against Guinea and helping Ghana reach the final.

Since signing with Boreham Wood in 2023, Appiah has been a key player, scoring 16 goals in over 30 appearances. While his focus remains on contributing on the pitch, his eyes are firmly set on the future—a future where he guides young talents and shares his wealth of experience.
