Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Spanish-Ghanaian winger Nico Williams ahead of the summer transfer window, edging out competition from several top European clubs.
The 22-year-old Athletic Bilbao star has been on the radar of major teams including Barcelona, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich following his stellar performances for both club and country. Despite heavy interest, Williams previously chose to remain at Bilbao, resisting offers from other elite clubs.
Fresh reports indicate that Arsenal have now emerged as the frontrunners, with the player favoring a move to the Premier League over the Bundesliga. This preference weakens Bayern Munich’s chances, especially as the German giants must offload players before making an official approach. Williams, however, is not willing to wait indefinitely for a concrete offer, giving Arsenal a clear edge in the pursuit.
At the Emirates, Williams is reportedly being promised a place in the starting lineup as the Gunners seek to bolster their attacking options on the left wing.
Williams showcased his goal-scoring ability recently, finding the net during Spain’s 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal first leg. This season, he has made 37 appearances for Athletic Bilbao, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Arsenal fans will be eager to see if the club can finalize a deal for one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.
