Arsenal’s young goalkeeper, Khari Ranson, has taken a significant step in his promising career by making his debut for England’s U18 national team. The London-born shot-stopper, eligible to represent Nigeria, Ghana, and England, is already the subject of an international battle for his services.
Ranson, who qualifies to play for the Super Eagles through his Nigerian father and the Black Stars via his Ghanaian mother, came off the bench during England’s clash against France U18s. He replaced Chelsea’s Jack Austin at halftime under the watchful eye of Young Lions coach Liam Bramley.
England appeared to be in control after early goals from Leo Shahar and Joshua Sonni-Lambie gave them a 2-0 lead. However, Ranson’s debut faced a tough challenge when he conceded two quick goals in five minutes. France’s Enzo Molebe struck twice in the 71st and 76th minutes to level the score.
Also flying the Nigerian flag was West Ham United’s Chukwuemeka Adiele, who impressed with a vital contribution. Adiele’s precise pull-back assisted Leo Shahar for England’s opening goal, showcasing his playmaking abilities.
Ranson’s journey to the goalposts is unique. He began his footballing career as a holding midfielder and central defender before stepping into the goalkeeper role when his team needed one. His talent earned him a scholarship deal with Arsenal for the 2024-2025 season alongside fellow prospects Andre Annous, Ife Ibrahim, Joshua Ogunnaike, and Samuel Onyekachukwu.
As the tug-of-war for his international allegiance intensifies, Khari Ranson’s debut for England U18s signals the start of what could be an exciting, multi-national career.
