On the eve of a decisive World Cup qualifier, former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan delivered a powerful message to the Ghanaian national team. With the stakes high, Gyan urged the players to secure victory against Madagascar and ease the mounting pressure.
The Black Stars face Madagascar on Monday, March 24, in Morocco for the sixth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Ghana, leading Group I with 12 points, holds a slim two-point advantage over their closest challengers, Madagascar.
During a team dinner on Sunday night, Gyan’s words were direct and motivational. “Make sure we don’t concede. If we don’t concede, it’s one point each. If we win three points, we are done, and then everybody can ease the pressure,” he said.
The legendary striker, who remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, urged the players to give their all, emphasizing the importance of fighting spirit over club commitments. “Let’s forget about the club—this is the World Cup,” he stressed.
Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad last Friday solidified their position at the top of the group. Another win against Madagascar would extend their lead to five points, bringing them closer to securing a World Cup berth.
With Gyan’s rallying cry echoing in their ears, the Black Stars know the mission is clear—claim all three points and move one step closer to the global stage.
