Augustine Ahinful Calls for Overhaul of National Team Management Committees

Former Ghanaian footballer Augustine Ahinful has voiced his frustration over the structure of national team management committees, urging for a more streamlined and accountable system.

Speaking on Accra-based Happy FM, Ahinful criticized the current model, where each national team has its own committee. He believes this approach is counterproductive, slowing down progress and fostering an environment where officials hesitate to challenge the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“It’s as if no one can speak up. If the FA is doing something wrong, they remain silent because they want to stay on the management team,” he lamented.

Ahinful proposed a shift toward a leaner structure, where only a few individuals oversee multiple teams, ensuring efficiency and transparency.

His comments come in the wake of Ghana’s underwhelming performance in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, prompting the GFA to introduce a new management team. The fresh appointments include GFA Executive Council member Dr. Randy Abbey, former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, Medeama SC President Moses Armah, FC Samartex President Richard Nsenkyire, and Greater Accra Regional FA Chairman Samuel Aboabire.

While the GFA moves forward with its new committee, Ahinful’s call for a complete restructuring raises a crucial debate about the future of football administration in Ghana.
