With the dream of a 2026 FIFA World Cup berth on the line, Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil has declared Ghana’s upcoming qualifier against Chad a must-win encounter.
The crucial fixture is set for Friday, March 21, 2025, at 19:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana, currently tied at the top of Group I with Comoros on nine points, is determined to maintain their lead before heading to Morocco to face Madagascar on March 24.
Having started their campaign with a victory over Madagascar, the Black Stars stumbled against Comoros but bounced back strongly with wins over Mali and the Central African Republic. Now, they are focused on taking all three points against a Chad side languishing at the bottom of the table with just one point.
“The Chad game is a must-win, and with the support of the fans, I know it will go well for us,” Paintsil told Happy Sports. “We all understand what qualifying for the World Cup will mean—new opportunities, investment, and global recognition.”
With Madagascar unable to host games at their national stadium, Ghana’s away fixture will take place in Al Hoceima, Morocco. The Black Stars are targeting six points from these two matches to solidify their qualification hopes and take another step toward the grand stage in North America.
As the nation holds its breath, all eyes will be on Accra, where Ghana looks to turn ambition into reality.
