Black Stars Target Crucial Victory to Cement Group I Lead Against Madagascar

Ghana’s Black Stars are determined to extend their lead at the top of Group I as they prepare to face Madagascar in a high-stakes World Cup qualifier on Monday night.

Fresh off a resounding 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Stars seized the top spot in the group. Goals from Antoine Semenyo, Iñaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah delivered a commanding win that boosted their World Cup ambitions.

With 12 points, Ghana holds a slim two-point advantage over second-placed Madagascar, making this upcoming clash a pivotal one. A win would not only solidify their lead but also bring them closer to securing a coveted spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For head coach Otto Addo, this match is nothing short of a “mini-final.” Emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus, Addo has called on his players to give their all in pursuit of victory.

“I think the most important thing is that I know everybody’s excited, everybody was happy about our last win, but we still have a long way to go and we need everyone to be on their toes. We don’t need 98 per cent, we don’t need 99 per cent, we need 100 per cent. This is like a small final, and if we win this game, then we are really going to qualify, but it’s going to be very, very tough,” Addo remarked, as quoted by the Ghana FA.

The stakes are high, with Madagascar also eyeing a win to leapfrog Ghana and claim the group’s top position. As both sides prepare for battle, the Black Stars understand that only a complete performance will guarantee the result they need.

The crucial showdown between Madagascar and Ghana is set for 7:00 pm GMT on Monday, March 24, at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima in Morocco.
