CAF World Cup Qualifiers: The Race to 2026 Heats Up!

The journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is intensifying across Africa, as Round 6 delivered thrilling moments, heartbreaks, and bold statements from the continent’s best.

In Group A, Egypt extended their dominance with a narrow 1-0 win over Sierra Leone, maintaining their unbeaten record and tightening their grip on the top spot with 16 points. Burkina Faso stayed in the hunt after a dramatic 2-1 away win against Guinea-Bissau, while Ethiopia thrashed Djibouti 6-0 to keep their hopes alive.

Group B saw Senegal flex their muscles with a 2-0 victory over Togo, while DR Congo stunned Mauritania 2-0 to stay in contention. Sudan and South Sudan shared the spoils in a tense 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Group C produced mixed fortunes for the big guns—South Africa overpowered Benin 2-0, but Nigeria stumbled again with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, leaving their qualification hopes in jeopardy.

In Group D, Cameroon stormed past Libya 3-1, while Cape Verde edged Angola 2-1 to remain in the chase. A six-goal thriller between Eswatini and Mauritius ended 3-3, keeping both sides at the bottom of the table.

Morocco kept their Group E campaign flawless with a convincing 2-0 win over Tanzania, while Group F witnessed Kenya falling 1-2 to Gabon as Côte d’Ivoire scraped past Gambia 1-0.

Algeria made a powerful statement in Group G, crushing Mozambique 5-1, while Uganda edged Guinea 1-0 to keep the group wide open.

Ghana roared back into form in Group I with a commanding 3-0 win over Madagascar, while Mali stumbled to a goalless draw against the Central African Republic.

With Round 7 & 8 looming, the battle for World Cup spots is more intense than ever—every point counts as African teams chase their World Cup dreams.
