Chris Hughton Reflects on the Contrasts Between Club and International Management

Former Black Stars Coach Shares Insights at Anti-Racism Event

Former Ghana national team coach Chris Hughton has shed light on the significant differences between managing at the club level and leading an international side. Speaking at a Show Racism the Red Card event, Hughton drew from his experience with the Black Stars to illustrate the unique challenges of international football.

“At club level, you work with players daily, shaping their development and tactics over time,” he explained. “In contrast, international football is centered around matches, with limited time to influence players directly.”

With a career spanning over four decades, Hughton has successfully navigated both club and international football. Before taking the helm as Ghana’s head coach, he played a crucial role as a Technical Advisor, contributing to the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, his tenure ended after Ghana’s early exit from the 2023 AFCON.

Despite this, Hughton remains eager for his next opportunity in football, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the game.
