A night of drama, controversy, and brilliance ended with a massive reward for Ernest Nuamah and his Olympique Lyonnais teammates, as their victory over OGC Nice earned them a triple winning bonus.
The match had been surrounded by tension even before kickoff, following a heated exchange between Lyon’s club president, John Textor, and Nice’s Jean-Pierre Rivère. Textor took to Instagram to call out his counterpart, accusing him of unfair treatment toward Lyon, particularly regarding Thiago Almada’s situation.
However, Lyon let their football do the talking on the pitch. After a cagey battle, Rayan Cherki broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, and just five minutes later, Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah sealed the win with a stunning strike. Fittingly, both goals were assisted by Almada, the player at the heart of the pre-game controversy.
In a post-match surprise, captain Alexandre Lacazette received a video call from Textor, who announced that the team’s winning bonus would be tripled as a reward for their performance.
Nuamah’s heroics further boost his chances of making Ghana’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, as he continues to shine in Ligue 1.
