The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially introduced a new leadership structure for the Black Stars, with Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew appointed as the team captain.
Addressing recent speculations, the GFA’s Communication Director, Henry Asante Twum, confirmed that Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will continue as the deputy captain. Ajax star Mohammed Kudus and Fenerbahçe defender Alexander Djiku have been named second and third vice-captains, respectively.
“It is not about individual aspirations; it is about what we want to achieve together,” Asante Twum told Sportsblog247.com. “The coach has made the decision to appoint Jordan Ayew as captain, with Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Alexander Djiku serving as vice-captains. All the players are aware of the structure and fully support it.”
Jordan Ayew began his tenure as captain on a high note, leading the Black Stars to two commanding victories during the March international break in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Ghana thrashed Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium before securing a 3-0 win over Madagascar.
These emphatic victories have propelled Ghana to the top of Group I, with four matches remaining in the qualifying campaign. The Black Stars will return to action when the World Cup qualifiers resume in September 2025.
