A Rising Star Catches Lazio’s Eye
On a dramatic Europa League night in Rome, a towering Nigerian striker made his mark. Viktoria Plzen’s Rafiu Durosinmi may not have walked away victorious, but his powerful header against Lazio left a lasting impression. Despite Plzen’s 2-1 defeat, the 22-year-old’s performance reignited Lazio’s interest in securing his services.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Durosinmi’s football journey took him from his homeland to the Czech Republic, first with Karvina and later with Viktoria Plzen in 2023. Though not yet an undisputed starter, his return of five goals in just nine appearances this season has turned heads. Among those watching closely is Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani, who reportedly met with the striker’s representatives after the match.
A Missing Piece for Lazio?
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio had already considered signing Durosinmi last summer but ultimately held off. Now, with Taty Castellanos sidelined, Lazio are struggling to fill the void up front. Tijjani Noslin and Loum Tchaouna have failed to convince, while Boulaye Dia has been deployed in a deeper attacking role.
Durosinmi’s profile could be exactly what Lazio need. Tall, versatile, mobile, and skilled on the ball, the young Nigerian has all the attributes to thrive in Serie A. With his value estimated at €10 million, the Biancocelesti may have to move quickly if they want to beat other suitors to his signature.
Could Durosinmi be the missing piece in Lazio’s attacking puzzle? Time will tell.
