Stanley Nwabali Praises Super Eagles’ Spirit After Clean Sheet Against Rwanda

Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has praised the unity and determination of the Super Eagles following Nigeria’s convincing 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday.

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen stole the show with a first-half brace, securing all three points for Nigeria at the Stade Amahoro. The win came under the watchful eyes of thousands of Rwandan fans, including the nation’s president, Paul Kagame.

After a frustrating spell of four consecutive winless matches in their World Cup qualifying campaign, the Super Eagles bounced back in dominant fashion. Nigeria controlled the game from the outset, limiting Rwanda’s attacking opportunities while displaying composure and authority throughout.

For Nwabali, who had little to do besides routine saves and cleaning up loose balls, the win highlighted the team’s renewed focus and togetherness. With Rwanda entering the international break as joint leaders of Group C, Nigeria knew they had to deliver — and they did so in style.

Nwabali’s Reaction
The 28-year-old goalkeeper, making his 18th international appearance and securing his eighth clean sheet, took to social media to celebrate the victory and commend his teammates.

“Solid win and clean sheet. We went for sightseeing. Great team spirit!!!” Nwabali shared on Twitter, reflecting his joy and pride.

Nwabali has now played in three of Nigeria’s five World Cup qualifiers, stepping into the number-one role after Cyprus-based Francis Uzoho featured in the opening two draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. His rise to prominence came during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where his stellar performances helped Nigeria reach the final and solidified his place as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Following the clean sheet in Kigali, Nwabali will aim to maintain his impressive form when Nigeria faces Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday for matchday six. A victory could push the Super Eagles into second place in Group C, depending on other results.

For now, the Nigerian squad can take pride in their dominant display against Rwanda as they shift focus to the next hurdle on the road to World Cup qualification.
