As the Black Stars prepare for a high-stakes showdown against Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, a familiar voice of encouragement has echoed through their camp. Former captain and Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Stephen Appiah, has rallied the team to approach the game with focus and determination.
Ghana, on a mission to secure their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, will lock horns with the Barea at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium tonight. The match, scheduled to kick off at 19:00 GMT, comes on the heels of the Black Stars’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad last Friday.
Despite their recent triumph, Appiah warned the players not to underestimate their opponents. Drawing from his own World Cup experiences in 2006 and 2010, he urged the squad to rise to the occasion and recognize the opportunity the global stage presents.
“The game against Chad is different from what we will face with Madagascar,” Appiah cautioned. “They have a unique style and strengths, so we must be mentally prepared. This is the World Cup we are talking about. Most of you were in Qatar, and after that experience, you returned to your clubs as different players.”
Appiah, who led Ghana to their historic World Cup debut in 2006, emphasized the career-transforming potential of the tournament. “Even those who didn’t play in 2006 benefited. Players on the bench earned contracts in Europe. Those playing abroad must sacrifice for their teammates based in Ghana,” he urged.
His stirring words reflect the high stakes involved, with the Black Stars aiming to maintain their momentum and strengthen their bid for World Cup qualification.
“We believe in you, and we know you will deliver,” Appiah concluded, reinforcing his faith in the team’s ability to secure victory.
All eyes will be on the Black Stars tonight as they seek to continue their journey toward the 2026 World Cup on a winning note.
