Tolu Arokodare Opens Up on Super Eagles Debut, Eric Chelle’s Gesture to His Parents, and Zimbabwe Clash Expectations

After making his debut for the Super Eagles, Tolu Arokodare has shared heartwarming details about his first experience with the national team and the personal touch from head coach Eric Chelle.

The Genk striker, who earned his maiden cap in Nigeria’s emphatic win against Rwanda last Friday in Kigali, expressed his gratitude to Chelle for trusting him and giving him the opportunity to represent his country.

In an exclusive interview with Sportsblog247.com, Arokodare reflected on the influence of the Malian tactician, describing his leadership as transformative and inspiring for the squad.

“It feels amazing. The coach knows how he wants to play, and I think everybody could see it—the intensity, the way we press, how we play with calmness and the right attitude,” Arokodare said.

Beyond tactics, the young forward highlighted Chelle’s personable nature, revealing the coach’s thoughtful gesture toward his family.

“I must say I am grateful to him for giving me my first call-up and debut. After the match, he even greeted my parents. Aside from being a coach, he’s a very nice guy who builds a special relationship with the players,” he added.

As the Super Eagles prepare for their next AFCON qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, Arokodare is staying grounded. Despite the convincing performance against Rwanda, he emphasized the need for focus and humility.

“I think there are better and greater things to come. We just have to stay positive, maintain the energy, not get ahead of ourselves, and stay focused,” he remarked.

Looking ahead to the Zimbabwe clash, the confident forward is optimistic about another strong performance from the team.

“Nigerians should expect nothing less or even better. Hopefully, we get the three points when we do everything right,” Arokodare concluded.

With the Super Eagles in high spirits and Eric Chelle’s positive impact already felt, fans across Nigeria will be eager to see their team deliver another commanding display against Zimbabwe.
