In a thrilling World Cup qualifier, Victor Osimhen once again proved why he is regarded as Africa’s finest footballer. The Super Eagles striker delivered a stunning performance, scoring both goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda, reigniting hopes for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Osimhen, who led the charge before being substituted for debutant Tolu Arokodare with 13 minutes remaining, earned high praise from South African football icon Shaun Bartlett. Speaking as a pundit on Super Sports Football, Bartlett highlighted the qualities that set Osimhen apart from his peers.
“No sugar, no spice, just finish,” Bartlett declared, emphasizing Osimhen’s straightforward but lethal approach to scoring goals. “He’s not about flair. For him, it’s about stats. It’s about scoring goals, being in the right position, and using your physicality. He can do it with his left foot, right foot, and we’ve seen him score headers as well.”
As the second-highest scorer in Bafana Bafana’s history, Bartlett knows a thing or two about finding the net. His admiration for Osimhen’s clinical efficiency was echoed by South African coach Sudesh Singh, who praised the striker’s intelligent movement inside the box.
“It’s like he’s in the kitchen,” Singh said. “His movement is very intelligent – how to move, anticipate, and arrive at the right time.”
Osimhen’s remarkable form is crucial for Nigeria as they prepare for their next challenge against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday. With his ability to deliver when it matters most, the Super Eagles’ hopes for World Cup qualification remain very much alive.
