It was a dramatic afternoon at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace, reduced to nine men, pulled off a gutsy 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in an electrifying Premier League encounter on Saturday.
England international of Ghanaian descent, Eddie Nketiah, found himself at the center of controversy after receiving two yellow cards — the first in the 69th minute and the second just nine minutes later — earning a red card and an early exit. His dismissal followed that of Marc Guehi, leaving the Eagles with a steep challenge for the final stretch of the game.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Palace showed immense character. The hosts struck early, with Jean-Philippe Mateta finding the net just three minutes in, courtesy of a clever assist from Eberechi Eze. Brighton responded through Danny Welbeck, who slotted home an equalizer in the 31st minute after a sharp pass from Yankuba Minteh, ensuring the first half ended level.
The turning point came in the 55th minute when Daniel Munoz netted what would prove to be the winner, once again with Eze playing the provider. Palace held firm for the remainder of the game, showing resilience and defensive discipline despite being down to nine men.
Eddie Nketiah, who joined Palace last summer, will now miss the club’s next Premier League fixture due to suspension. So far this season, he has recorded one goal and two assists in 22 appearances.
