Adarabioyo Shines, George Sparks as Chelsea Eases Past LAFC in Club World Cup Opener

Chelsea kicked off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign in style on Monday night with a composed 2-0 win over Major League Soccer champions Los Angeles FC, underlining their intent on the global stage. At the heart of the victory was new signing Tosin Adarabioyo, who delivered a commanding performance in defense, while young winger Tyrique George offered glimpses of flair and promise in the second half.

From the first whistle, Chelsea asserted control, dominating possession and dictating the pace of the match. Adarabioyo quickly made his presence felt, cutting out an early threat from Denis Bouanga in the 8th minute with a sharp interception. His dominance in the air was on full display in the 29th minute as he rose to clear a menacing delivery from Pedro Neto. Even after picking up a yellow card just before halftime for a late tackle, the former Fulham defender maintained composure and proved a rock alongside Levi Colwill.

Chelsea’s first goal came in the 34th minute when Nicolas Jackson laid the ball off to Pedro Neto, who finished clinically into the bottom corner. The second came late in the game, as substitute Liam Delap whipped in a superb cross that Enzo Fernandez met with precision in the 79th minute.

Adarabioyo wasn’t just a wall at the back—his distribution helped unlock LAFC’s midfield. A pinpoint long pass in the 61st minute sparked a promising attack and showcased his vision from deep.

Youngster Tyrique George added energy and creativity after coming on in the 64th minute. He nearly set up a third goal with a dazzling solo run, slicing through the LAFC defense before being halted at the edge of the box.

LAFC, despite efforts from Hugo Lloris and a few dangerous moments from Bouanga, were unable to crack Chelsea’s backline, registering only three shots on target. In the end, it was a controlled and confident performance from the London side, with Adarabioyo’s mature display setting the tone for what could be a promising tournament.
