Queens Park Rangers have pulled off a major transfer upset by snatching Kwame Poku from under the noses of Rangers in a dramatic late twist.
The 23-year-old winger, who looked set to join the Scottish giants as his contract with Peterborough United approached its end, has instead opted to return to the Championship with QPR.
London-born Poku, who represents Ghana internationally, enjoyed a stellar 2024–25 season with Peterborough. Despite missing part of the campaign with a hamstring injury, he still racked up 12 goals and 11 assists in 31 games—cementing his reputation as one of League One’s most electrifying talents.
QPR swooped in with a late offer, agreeing to a compensation deal with Peterborough and convincing Poku to make the move to Loftus Road. With over 200 senior appearances and 73 goal contributions already under his belt, the former Colchester United man brings valuable experience and a creative spark to the side.
Poku’s arrival marks the first significant signing in what is expected to be a transformative summer for QPR, who are set to begin a new era under incoming head coach Julien Stéphan, formerly of Stade Rennais, following the departure of Marti Cifuentes.
This bold move not only signals QPR’s intent for the upcoming season but also deals a blow to Rangers, who had long been leading the race for the dynamic Ghanaian attacker.
