Veteran Ghanaian midfielder set for La Liga comeback as Barca accelerate talks
Barcelona are moving swiftly to secure the services of Ghana international Thomas Partey, with the midfielder reportedly on the verge of a sensational return to Spain.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Catalan giants have entered advanced negotiations with Partey’s representatives, aiming to sign the Arsenal star on a free transfer once his contract expires on June 30.
The 32-year-old, who previously starred for Atletico Madrid, is eager to return to La Liga and continue competing at the highest level. He turned down an extension at Arsenal in favour of reigniting his career in Spanish football.
Barça’s sporting director Deco is said to be a major admirer of Partey’s profile, valuing his blend of tactical discipline, physical strength, and big-match experience. With no transfer fee involved, the club views the deal as a low-risk, high-reward addition.
Having already secured goalkeeper Joan Garcia and closing in on Nico Williams and Roony Bardghji, Barcelona are now prioritising Partey’s arrival to bolster their midfield depth ahead of the new season.
Though other European clubs have shown interest, Barcelona’s project and Partey’s desire to return to familiar territory have made the Camp Nou outfit favourites to land him.
A formal offer is expected in the coming days, with an official unveiling potentially set before the start of pre-season.
