“We’re Not Going to Africa to Add Numbers” – Bibiani Goldstars Coach Vows Squad Reinforcement Ahead of Historic CAF Champions League Debut

Bibiani Goldstars are dreaming big ahead of their maiden CAF Champions League campaign—and head coach Stephen Frimpong Manso is making sure the club is ready to shine on Africa’s biggest stage.

Following a historic 2024/25 Ghana Premier League triumph, the Miners earned a place among the continent’s elite clubs, becoming just the 14th side ever to win the domestic title since 1956. The championship run was a result of team unity, tactical discipline, and an ironclad home record at Dun’s Park, which transformed into a feared fortress over the season.

But as the dust settles on their fairytale domestic campaign, the focus now shifts to continental ambitions. Coach Frimpong Manso is under no illusions about the scale of the task ahead and is already making plans to strengthen his team for the challenge.

“We’re not going to Africa to add numbers. We have to augment our squad to compete well. Talks have already begun with a few players,” he revealed in an interview with Wontumi FM. “We will strategize based on when the Champions League begins. We know we need to work hard, improve physically, condition-wise, and tactically. We are very aware of what lies ahead, and we’re preparing accordingly.”

Though the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has yet to confirm dates for the preliminary rounds, the Miners are wasting no time ensuring they’re battle-ready.

Bibiani’s rise to the summit of Ghanaian football has captured the imagination of fans, and now, all eyes will be on how far the Goldstars can go on the African stage.
