A Nation’s Pride: Black Queens Celebrated at Jubilee House and Parliament for WAFCON Triumph
The triumphant Black Queens continued their heroic homecoming with a grand visit to the Jubilee House on Tuesday, where they were warmly welcomed by President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
Flanked by the Minister of Sports, Mr. Kofi Adams, CAF 2nd Vice President and GFA President Mr. Kurt Okraku, and other dignitaries, the team received high praise for their discipline, drive, and outstanding representation of Ghana at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
President Mahama hailed the players, saying,
> “The Black Queens have shown us what’s possible when talent meets tenacity. You have inspired a new generation and lifted the soul of the nation. This bronze medal is not the end—it’s just the beginning.”
He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving structures and resources for women in sports, promising policy reforms to ensure sustained development in female athletics.
The visit featured a heartfelt meet-and-greet, photo ops with the nation’s leaders, and a symbolic cash presentation to the team by the President and Vice President—an expression of national gratitude.
Meanwhile, in a strong show of bipartisan appreciation, the Minority in Parliament donated GH¢100,000 to the Queens during a ceremony at Parliament House. Led by Minority Leader Mr. Afenyo Markins and Madam Patricia Appiagyei, MPs lauded the team for their passion and resilience.
> “You’ve reignited belief in women’s football and lifted the flag of Ghana high,” Mr. Afenyo declared.
As accolades pour in from all corners of the country, the Black Queens remain symbols of hope, resilience, and the bright future of Ghanaian women’s football.
