Bruno Onyemaechi: Club Consistency Key to My Super Eagles Dream

For Bruno Onyemaechi, wearing the green and white of Nigeria’s Super Eagles is a privilege that demands constant hard work. Fresh from a successful season with Greek giants Olympiakos, the 26-year-old defender says his biggest motivation is to keep earning a place in the national team.

Speaking to Brila FM, Onyemaechi explained that regular club football is the foundation for international recognition. “The most important thing for me is to get more game time because if you don’t play much, it’s very difficult to be in the national team,” he said. “You always want to represent your country, so that’s my focus.”

The left-back joined Olympiakos from Portuguese side Boavista and quickly made his mark, helping the club capture two trophies in his debut season. He described the achievement as one of the proudest moments of his career. “It’s one of my biggest achievements to go to that type of historic club and win two trophies with them. I was really happy, and I’m looking forward to more,” he added.

Adjusting to life in Greece has brought its own challenges. “The culture there and from where I came from is quite different,” Onyemaechi admitted. “But the most important thing is that you’re at a bigger club, the more pressure you have. You need to win the league. The pressure here is higher than that of Portugal.”

With Nigeria chasing a spot at the 2026 World Cup, Onyemaechi knows that staying sharp for Olympiakos is the surest way to keep his Super Eagles journey alive.
