Inaki Williams: Arsenal Defeat “Doesn’t Reflect the Game” as Athletic Club Fall in UCL Opener

Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams voiced his frustration after Athletic Club’s 2–0 loss to Arsenal in their UEFA Champions League group-stage opener on Tuesday night.

Wearing the captain’s armband, Williams led the Basque side with high intensity at the Emirates and felt his team deserved more from a match that saw them dominate early exchanges. Despite their bright start, Athletic Club failed to convert chances, while Arsenal punished them with second-half goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

“The result doesn’t reflect the game; we played well,” Williams said in his post-match interview. “Arsenal are one of the favourites in this competition, but we fought and gave it our all.”

The Black Stars striker and his teammates will quickly shift focus back to La Liga, where they face Valencia on Saturday, September 20, looking to bounce back from the European setback.
