Tottenham Hotspur’s 3–0 London-derby triumph over West Ham United carried more than just bragging rights—it showcased a new set-piece edge and a heartfelt gesture from match-winner Pape Matar Sarr.
The Senegalese midfielder broke the deadlock early in the second half, rising to meet Xavi Simons’ pinpoint corner and steering a powerful header past the Hammers’ defence. Instead of a trademark celebration, Sarr sprinted toward the Spurs bench and pointed emphatically.
After the match, he revealed the meaning behind the move. “It was for the coach—our set-piece coach Andreas Georgson,” Sarr told the club’s media team. “He spoke about it at half-time, told me exactly where the ball would arrive. We worked on it two days ago and even talked with Xavi yesterday. I said, ‘If you put it there, I’ll score.’ And it happened.”
The moment underlined the influence of new manager Thomas Frank, who has brought Brentford’s renowned set-piece precision to North London. Spurs racked up 13 corners on the day, even seeing another Cristian Romero header ruled out for a foul.
Sarr also reflected on the team’s response after a pre-international-break loss to Bournemouth: “Today was special. We needed to bounce back and we did it. Everyone is happy.”
For Tottenham supporters, the win signals not only a derby victory but a glimpse of a side sharpening its dead-ball threat—a weapon Frank clearly intends to make a hallmark of his tenure.
