Former French international Emmanuel Petit has cautioned Liverpool against signing Alexander Isak, suggesting the move could undermine the progress of Hugo Ekitike at Anfield.
Petit explained that Ekitike’s journey has already been a rollercoaster — from enduring heavy criticism and lack of trust at PSG, to rediscovering himself in Germany, and now thriving at Liverpool. He noted that the young striker is finally enjoying confidence and responsibility at one of the world’s biggest clubs.
But with Isak potentially arriving for a hefty price tag, Petit fears the balance could be disrupted.
️ “Do you really think Isak would sit on the bench? In big games, who starts? It could damage Ekitike’s momentum, and that would be a shame given how well he’s settled.”
The French legend admitted Liverpool’s packed schedule means there would be minutes for both forwards, but he stressed the danger of Ekitike being sidelined in crucial matches.
