Felix Agu’s AFCON Dream Shattered After Successful Ankle Surgery ⚽

Nigeria defender Felix Agu has undergone successful surgery after suffering a syndesmosis ligament injury — commonly known as a high ankle sprain — during Werder Bremen’s recent Bundesliga clash with St. Pauli.

The 25-year-old fullback was forced off the pitch after landing awkwardly in a challenge, and subsequent scans confirmed the severity of the injury. Following the operation, Bremen shared a photo of Agu smiling from his hospital bed, assuring fans that the procedure went well.

However, the injury blow comes at a painful time for the versatile Super Eagles defender, as it’s expected to sideline him for several months, effectively ruling him out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Agu had been named in Nigeria’s squad for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic, but had to withdraw following the diagnosis. He will now focus on rehabilitation with Bremen’s medical team as he begins the road to recovery.

A tough setback, but Agu’s determination remains unbroken.
