Stoke City have strengthened their attacking ranks with the Deadline Day signing of Ghanaian youngster Ato Ampah from Premier League side Chelsea, completing the move for an undisclosed fee.
The 19-year-old England Under-20 international has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at the bet365 Stadium, committing his future to the Championship outfit as they continue to rebuild with a focus on youthful, high-upside talent.
Ampah departs Chelsea after eight years at the club, having joined the Blues’ academy at the age of 11. He made his senior debut last season in the UEFA Conference League, reflecting the high regard in which he was held at Stamford Bridge.
Known for his explosive pace, direct running and attacking flair, the winger enjoyed an impressive spell at academy level. Across 41 starts for Chelsea’s Under-18, Under-21 and UEFA Youth League teams, Ampah recorded 19 goals and 18 assists, performances that attracted Stoke City’s recruitment team.
Stoke Sporting Director Jonathan Walters revealed the club had been tracking Ampah for some time, praising his mentality and ability to excite fans from wide areas. Walters added that the teenager fits Stoke’s profile for attacking wingers and believes he will continue to grow within the first-team setup.
Speaking after sealing the move, Ampah expressed his delight at starting a new chapter with the Potters, highlighting the club’s reputation for developing young players as a major factor in his decision.
Eager to take the next step in his career, the former Chelsea prospect will now aim to establish himself in senior football, with Stoke supporters keen to see what he can bring in red and white.
