VfL Wolfsburg Sporting Director Pirmin Schwegler has expressed strong confidence that Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjetey will make an immediate impact following his arrival at the Bundesliga club.
The 22-year-old Black Stars centre-back completed a move to Wolfsburg from Swiss outfit FC Basel on transfer deadline day, signing a long-term contract that runs until 2030.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Schwegler highlighted Adjetey’s development and experience at Basel as key reasons behind Wolfsburg’s decision to secure his signature.
“At Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally over the past three and a half years,” Schwegler said.
“We have high hopes for Jonas and are convinced that he will strengthen our team immediately.”
Adjetey joins Wolfsburg at a challenging moment in the season, with the club currently sitting 14th in the 18-team Bundesliga table after conceding 42 goals in 20 league matches. His arrival is seen as part of efforts to shore up the defence and improve results in the second half of the campaign.
Strong and consistent performances in Germany could also boost Adjetey’s chances of cementing a place in the Ghana national team as the Black Stars build toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
