Wales Set to Host Ghana in Historic Pre-World Cup Friendly Clash

Wales will take on Ghana in a landmark international friendly this summer, marking the first time the Welsh national team will host an African opponent on home soil.

The match is scheduled to take place at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, June 2, with the kick-off time yet to be confirmed.

Led by head coach Craig Bellamy, Wales will use the encounter as part of their preparations as they continue their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Welsh side is set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team in a crucial play-off on March 26, with the winner advancing to another decisive tie against either Italy national football team or Northern Ireland national football team five days later.

Ghana, meanwhile, have already secured their place at the global tournament and will use the friendly as part of their preparations for the World Cup, where the Black Stars are set to face England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team in the group stage.

The upcoming clash will be only the second meeting between Wales and an African side. Their first came in a 1998 friendly against Tunisia national football team, a match Wales lost 4–0, with Bellamy himself starting in attack during his playing days.

Ghana’s squad is expected to feature several key players, including Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, who once had a loan spell with Newport County earlier in his career.

The fixture will be one of two friendlies Wales will play in June, with the second opponent yet to be announced.
