Canadian-born Ghanaian youngster Kenneth Osei Bonsu Amankwa has expressed his strong desire to represent Ghana at the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, as he pushes for a place in the final Ghana U-17 national football team squad.

After earning a call-up for preparatory matches, the promising defender is eager to make the final selection for the 2026 U-17 AFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from May 13 to June 2.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, Amankwa highlighted the pride and emotional significance of representing his roots. He noted that playing for Ghana would not only be personally fulfilling but also a proud moment for his family.

The teenager also emphasized his commitment in training, stating that he is giving his all to prove he deserves a place in the squad. While acknowledging that missing out would be disappointing, he remains focused on learning and improving regardless of the outcome.

Ghana, two-time champions of the tournament, have been drawn in a competitive Group D alongside Senegal U-17 national football team, South Africa U-17 national football team, and Algeria U-17 national football team.

With a rich history in the competition—including titles in 1995 and 1999—the Black Starlets will be aiming to make another strong impression, and Amankwa hopes to be part of that journey.
