Libya Turns AFCON Qualifier with Nigeria into a 12-Hour Airport Crisis

What should have been a routine AFCON qualifier between Nigeria and Libya has devolved into a 12-hour ordeal for the Super Eagles, who remain stranded at Al Abraq Airport in Libya. After their chartered flight was unexpectedly diverted from Benghazi, the team has been left without transportation or assistance, sparking frustration and uncertainty about the match. Some suggest that Libya’s actions could be rooted in alleged grievances from their first-leg defeat in Nigeria, though the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) denies any wrongdoing. As the players’ physical and mental condition deteriorates, the NFF is now planning an emergency exit, pulling the team out of the match. The situation raises serious concerns about sportsmanship, with calls for intervention from CAF.
