Flying Eagles Announce Squad for WAFU Zone B U20 Cup of Nations; Daga Replaced

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have named a 20-man squad for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U20 tournament in Togo, as reported by Sportblog247.com. Under the leadership of coach Aliyu Zubairu, the team will compete in Group B against Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire, while Group A includes Togo, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic.

Preparations for the tournament commenced in Abuja before the team relocated to the Remo Sports Institute in Ikenne, Ogun State. During this time, they engaged in several test matches, securing a 4-1 victory over Seamorrow FC.

The finalized squad includes two goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders, and six forwards, featuring prominent players such as Daniel Bameyi from Bayelsa United, Kenneth Igboke from Rangers, and Charles Agada from Mavlon FC.

Notably, 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup star Daniel Daga was initially included but has been replaced by Muhammad Sabiu Ibrahim due to passport issues, as Daga’s Nigerian passport is currently with the Norwegian embassy.

The Flying Eagles will kick off their tournament against Burkina Faso on October 18 at the Municipal Stadium in Lome at 3 PM local time, followed by a match against Cote d’Ivoire three days later at the same venue. The tournament begins on October 17, featuring Togo against Niger Republic at the Kegue Stadium. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
