Jomo Sono Applauds Hugo Broos for Bafana Bafana Revival

South African football legend Jomo Sono has praised the work of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos for turning around the team’s fortunes. Under Broos’ leadership, South Africa’s international football presence has improved, with a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year and the team well-positioned to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Speaking to the media, Sono, who led the national team during the 1998 AFCON and 2002 World Cup, commended Broos’ resilience, especially after facing heavy criticism early in his tenure.

“I think he’s doing a good job. We must not take that away from him. I believe he’ll stay longer if he can survive the media. When he started, he faced a lot of character assassination, but he’s proven everyone wrong,” Sono remarked, as reported by iDiskiTimes.

Bafana Bafana’s next challenge is an AFCON qualifier against Congo on Tuesday. After their commanding 5-0 win in Gqeberha, Broos’ men are aiming for another victory in Brazzaville, which could see them top Group K, depending on the Uganda vs. South Sudan result.

The match kicks off at 6 pm and will be broadcast on SABC 3 and SABC+.
