Jamie Leweling’s Choice: Why He Chose Germany Over Ghana After Scoring on Debut

In a recent interview, Jamie Leweling revealed the reasons behind his decision to play for Germany over Ghana, following his debut goal for the national team in their 1-0 victory over the Netherlands.

Born to a German mother and Ghanaian father, the VfB Stuttgart winger had the option to represent either country. In 2020, Leweling declined a call-up from Ghana and chose to focus on Germany, where he was born and raised.

“Quite simply: because I was born and grew up here. I am German!” Leweling explained when asked about the decision that had lingered for years.

His international debut on October 14, 2024, was a defining moment. Despite initial nerves, Leweling secured a crucial win for Germany in the UEFA Nations League. The joy of helping his team to victory reflected his pride in representing the country he calls home.
