Joseph Aidoo Reflects on Emotional Return to Football After Year-Long Injury Layoff

Ghanaian defender Joseph Aidoo has opened up about the emotional experience of returning to the pitch after nearly a year out due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. The 29-year-old Celta Vigo center-back sustained the injury during a friendly match against Mexico in October 2023, leading to surgery and a long rehabilitation process.

Aidoo made his comeback in September 2024, coming on as a substitute in the 89th minute of Celta Vigo’s 3-1 win over Real Valladolid in La Liga. Speaking to Sporty TV, he described the moment as “really nice and really emotional,” adding, “After being out for almost a year, hearing the fans chant and celebrating a win made it all the more marvellous.”

During his absence, Aidoo missed key competitions, including the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, making his return not only a personal victory but also a significant boost for his team as they aim to gain momentum in the league.
