“Local Players Deserve Opportunities Like Gyan – Yahaya Mohammed Calls for Fair Treatment in Black Stars Selection”

Former Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars forward, Yahaya Mohammed, is calling for more opportunities for local players within the Black Stars. With recent selections heavily favouring foreign-based players, only two Ghana Premier League stars, Kotoko’s Frederick Asare and Samartex’s Isaac Afful, were included in Ghana’s squad for recent matches against Sudan.

Mohammed emphasized that prominent players like Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah began their journeys in Ghana’s domestic league and benefitted from early opportunities. “It’s essential to give local players a fair chance,” he said in an interview with Kessben FM, stressing that playing time is key to their development.

The former Black Galaxies attacker criticized the technical team’s decision to replace absent foreign-based players with others from overseas rather than local talents, showing a lack of commitment to integrating home-grown talent into the squad.

In their upcoming matches against Angola and Niger, Ghana’s qualification hopes rest on securing victories and hoping Sudan stumbles in their remaining games.
