Lyon coach Pierre Sage has addressed Nigerian striker Gift Orban’s recent exclusion from the matchday squad against Auxerre, attributing it to an unsatisfactory level of commitment. Orban, who has played only 22 minutes in the past month, had a strong start this season, scoring a brace against Strasbourg. However, after two goalless games, his appearances have been limited.
Despite a 2-2 draw against Auxerre, Sage clarified that the decision was not personal but based on performance. “It’s not a decision against them; it’s a decision for the group,” Sage noted, emphasizing that he wants all players, including Orban, to remain motivated and show more in training.
With a crucial game against Lille approaching, Orban aims to secure his spot in the lineup.
