The Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U20 team, secured their place in the WAFU B U20 Championship final and clinched a spot in the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a determined 3-1 comeback win over Niger Republic on Sunday at Stade de Kegue in Lomé. Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s side now prepares to defend their title against rivals Ghana in Wednesday’s final.

Despite Niger taking an early ninth-minute lead, the Flying Eagles showed their resolve, with Clinton Jephta equalizing in the 35th minute. Jephta added another goal in the second half, and Olalekan Alonge sealed the win with a third goal in added time. Goalkeeper Ifeanyi Harcourt also played a key role, making crucial saves to maintain the lead.

The team’s spirited performance drew praise from Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who expressed confidence in their ability to defend the title.

Cash Boost and Motivation

Ahead of the semi-final, the Flying Eagles received significant financial support. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, and other notable donors contributed generously, further motivating the players as they aim to bring home the championship.
