The journey to a fifth U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title begins with determination, a directive from the top, and a hunger for redemption. After a narrow 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship final, Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites, now has its sights firmly set on the 2025 U-20 AFCON.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has stirred the spirits of the young squad with a call to claim victory. Addressing the team, Okraku encouraged Coach Desmond Ofei and his players to bring the title back home, marking what would be Ghana’s fifth U-20 championship win.
The Black Satellites, who won their first AFCON title in Mauritius in 1993, have a history of seizing the crown when it counts. They triumphed on home soil in 1999, in Rwanda in 2009, and most recently, in Mauritania in 2021. Now, as they prepare to represent Ghana in the continental showdown, the stakes are high: a top-four finish at the tournament not only secures glory but also earns qualification to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
With a legacy to uphold and a future to shape, Ghana’s young stars are ready to make history once more.
