Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu has issued a passionate call to Super Eagles players, encouraging them to bring the same intensity to the national team as they do for their clubs. Now the chairman of Enyimba International, Kanu, a former Arsenal and Super Eagles striker, voiced his thoughts in an interview with Brila, urging the players to go above and beyond for Nigeria.
Kanu, who enjoyed a highly successful career winning trophies with Ajax, Inter Milan, and as part of Arsenal’s historic 2004 “Invincibles,” emphasized the pride of wearing the national jersey. He challenged players like Victor Boniface, who has been excelling for Bayer Leverkusen but struggling to find his rhythm with the Super Eagles.
“They are very important,” Kanu stated. “They can’t be doing well in their various clubs and then come to the national team and not do the same. If you’re giving your club 100%, give us 200%.”
Boniface has reportedly drawn inspiration from fellow Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, who advised him to stay focused, assuring him that his hard work would eventually translate into goals for Nigeria. With the Super Eagles showing signs of improvement, Kanu’s words resonate as a call to continue raising their level on the national stage.
