In a bold move to elevate Ghanaian football, BetPawa has committed to investing GH¢7 million in Ghana’s elite men’s and women’s football leagues over the next five seasons. This major announcement came from Ntoudi Mouyelo, managing director of Mchezo Limited, the operators of BetPawa, during a press conference at Accra’s Alisa Hotel on November 5, 2024.
The core of this investment is BetPawa’s innovative “locker room bonus,” an incentive program initially launched to reward players in the Ghana Premier League. The program has been a game-changer, motivating teams by rewarding players on winning match day rosters. In its debut season (2022/23), the locker room bonus distributed a total of GH¢600,000 to nearly 4,000 players from 17 teams. Only Asante Kotoko abstained from participation.
Recognizing the success and impact of the program, BetPawa upped the stakes last season, raising the bonus from GH¢150 to GH¢400 per win, culminating in a payout of GH¢1.3 million to roughly 3,000 players. Now, in a strategic expansion, the program will also cover the Women’s FA Cup, broadening its reach to support female athletes. Additionally, the 2024 season will include bonuses for three members of each team’s coaching or technical staff, allowing teams the flexibility to decide which staff members will receive this recognition for each match.
By the season’s end, BetPawa expects to reward at least 3,500 players with GH¢1.4 million in total bonuses, further fueling competition and inspiring Ghana’s football talent. Mouyelo explained, “We want to see both men and women’s divisions thrive, and we’re excited to contribute to that with this significant investment.”
Through this enhanced incentive structure, BetPawa’s commitment is set to drive motivation, improve performance, and sustain growth across Ghana’s football leagues, marking a new chapter in the nation’s sports development.
