Former Arsenal and Nigeria forward, Nwankwo Kanu, has expressed that coaching Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, is a dream opportunity for any manager, thanks to the team’s wealth of talent. Despite facing administrative challenges, Nigeria has a storied football history, including three Africa Cup of Nations titles and three World Cup knockout stage appearances.
Kanu, who captained Nigeria’s “Dream Team” to Olympic gold in 1996, highlighted the Super Eagles’ exceptional player pool as a key asset. He noted that any manager, whether foreign or local, would be fortunate to lead a squad filled with superstars. “We are blessed with players; with superstars,” Kanu affirmed. He emphasized that the main task for any coach is bringing the talented players together and fostering cohesion within the squad.
Currently, Augustine Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles player, is temporarily managing the team. His positive results have sparked discussions about him potentially becoming the full-time head coach, especially with Nigeria approaching qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
