Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo has appointed Leicester City’s Jordan Ayew as captain for the Black Stars’ decisive final games in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The team faces a make-or-break situation, needing back-to-back wins to keep their AFCON hopes alive.
The Black Stars will travel to Luanda to play already-qualified Angola on November 15, followed by a home game against Niger on November 18 at Accra Sports Stadium. This decision comes after Addo named West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus as captain in the last international break, a choice that sparked backlash as Ghana faltered in a double-header against Sudan.
After resolving matters in a recent meeting in Leicester, Addo entrusted Ayew with the leadership role in the absence of regular captains Andre Ayew and Thomas Partey.
With only two points from four games, Ghana sits third in the group standings and must rely on Sudan dropping points to keep their qualification dream for the 2025 tournament in Morocco alive.
