West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus has expressed deep regret over his red card in a recent match against Tottenham Hotspur, where the Ghanaian international was sent off during a heated moment in his team’s 4-1 loss. The Independent Regulatory Commission disclosed Kudus’s personal response to the incident, highlighting his embarrassment and remorse.
Kudus initially received a yellow card for a foul on Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, but following a VAR review, the card was upgraded to a red for violent conduct, which included an altercation with Pape Matar Sarr. The Football Association handed Kudus an automatic three-match ban and an additional two-game suspension with a £60,000 fine after further review of his conduct.
In a statement to the commission, Kudus described the incident as “out of character” and apologized, explaining that he had momentarily lost his temper. Kudus also shared that his preparation for the match had been mentally challenging after international duty and negative social media comments. Emphasizing his commitment to being a role model, Kudus reflected on his community work both in the UK and Ghana.
As his ban concludes, Kudus is expected to rejoin the Black Stars for their upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Angola and Niger, where he hopes to focus on helping his national team.
