“Robert Sackey Calls for Overhaul of Black Stars Technical Team Ahead of 2026 World Cup Qualifiers”

Story:
Former Black Maidens coach Robert Sackey has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to revamp the Black Stars’ technical team to boost the nation’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sackey’s call follows Ghana’s disappointing campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where the team failed to win a single game, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches.

Despite securing back-to-back victories against Mali and the Central African Republic in the World Cup qualifiers, Sackey remains critical of the technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo and supported by Joseph Laumann, John Paintsil, and Fatawu Dauda.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Sackey highlighted the team’s lack of experience as a key factor in Ghana’s recent struggles.
“Our technical team is inexperienced, and that is why we are experiencing bad results. The approach needs to be changed to ensure good outcomes,” he said. “If the Black Stars coach is not replaced, qualifying for the World Cup will be difficult.”

The GFA Executive Council is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the future of Otto Addo and his team. Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign will resume in March 2025, with crucial matches against Chad and Madagascar.
