As the Super Falcons prepare to face France in a high-profile international friendly at the Stade Raymond Kopa, fans have been left wondering about the absence of star forward Asisat Oshoala. Interim head coach Justine Madugu has now provided clarity on the situation, revealing that the omission of the six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year is not performance-related but due to administrative challenges.
Oshoala, who recently joined Bay FC in the United States after leaving Barcelona, has not featured for the national team since the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her exclusion from the 20-player squad for Saturday’s clash against France is the latest in a series of absences, including two recent friendlies against Algeria.
Madugu reassured fans that Oshoala remains a vital part of the Super Falcons’ plans.
“She is an integral member of the team and still one of our most important players,” Madugu stated. “However, she is dealing with documentation issues in the US. Her visa and work permit have expired, and she cannot leave the country until they are resolved. This has nothing to do with her performance or commitment to the national team.”
The squad for the France friendly includes seven foreign-based players, with the majority coming from Nigeria’s domestic league, signaling an opportunity for Madugu to test local talent in a challenging fixture.
As the Super Falcons continue their preparations, fans will undoubtedly hope to see Oshoala return to the fold once her administrative hurdles are cleared.
